5th Week Thanksgiving Psalms
Week Five - Psalms
Monday, Psalm 103 written by David
Psalm 103
Verses 1-5
Matt Strayer
Verses 1-5: “Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His holy name. Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits---- who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with LOVE and COMPASSION, who satisfies your desires with good things so your youth is renewed like the eagles.”
THOUGHT
I pray these verses in daily for everyone. This chapter is full of forgiveness and the love of God. In 8 & 9 we read His Love in those verses for us sinners. In verses 10-12 He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. With this verse I remember all the times that I had been hurt by someone’s words or deeds. I’d want to hurt them back in some way. By reading this, God shows us that it isn’t the right way to do it.
We should react like verse 11 says. He does for us. “For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His love for those who fear Him.” If we truly feared the Lord, we would so want to please Him in every way we could with the Holy Spirit helping and showing us.
I confess there isn’t a day I don’t mess up in some way or another. I NEED HIM TO HELP ME THROUGH HIS WORD DAILY AND IN PRAYER. Verse 12 says, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Wow, what love is that for us all. Verse 17 says, “But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear Him, and His righteousness with their children’s children.” That is His promise to us for our families.
Verses 20-22 sites praising the Lord from angels. Next time when you are out walking, look at His handy work and see the trees bowing before Him and the flowers blooming for Him and the bugs and animals even making noise to worship Him. This is a great time for us to also praise and thank Him. We serve an awesome God.
Praise the Lord.
PRAYER
Father, forgive us daily our sins and truly let us always look to You to show and help us in everything even if we don’t understand sometimes. I thank You for moving this group to read the Word and do devotions on it. What a step of faith for them. Bless us all, Lord, and all our families near or far.
In Jesus Name. AMEN
Tuesday, Psalm 101 written by David
Psalm 101
Verse 6
Jeanie Boldt
Verse 6: My eyes will be on the faithful in the land, that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me.
THOUGHT
David said that he would keep his eyes “on the faithful in the land.” In other words, he would choose as models and as friends those who are godly and truthful. Our friends and associates can have a profound influence on our lives. Make sure to keep your eyes on those who are faithful to God and His Word.
My prayer is that our young children can find Christian friends who reflect actions that our Lord would be proud of. May they keep their eyes on that which is true, pure, noble, right, admirable, lovely, and excellent and praise worthy.
Do you have some friends who are excellent examples of the reflections of Jesus? Yes, those are the people we should be around and pattern our actions after. David stated that this was his desire. Let’s make it ours.
PRAYER
Father, surround us with fellow followers of Christ’s Love. May we feel secure in our relationships and therefore strong in our love for You. May we flee from those who would bring us down or boast of evil ways. Protect us with Your mighty armor so that we may use the breast plate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the belt of truth, the sword of the spirit, and the shield of faith. May we always have the spirit of a servant and the attitude of Christ. AMEN
Wednesday, Psalm 136, Author Anonymous
Psalm 136
Verse 23
Matt Strayer
Verse 23: “to the One who remembered us in our low estate, His love endures forever.”
THOUGHT
When we are the most unlovable, God’s love for us does not change. I think knowing this truth in our heads is much easier than knowing this truth in our hearts. So much of our culture is performance based. It is hard to understand that our actions do not change God’s love for us.
We cannot make God love us more or less. His love is unchanging!
PRAYER
God, we praise You for always loving us the same. Thank You for loving us when we are unloving towards others, when we have a bad attitude, when we are lazy. Thank You for loving us when we do the right thing, when we are salt and light in Your world, when we serve others. Thank You for never changing! Help us to love like You love. AMEN
