  Click on Title for a Video Introduction Monday, Matthew Chapter 15 (Verses 1-20) Matthew 15A Verse 18 Tanya Ruden Verse 18:  “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man unclean.” THOUGHT I haven’t really heard of it this way before that everything that comes from our mouth is from the heart.  So when we say something mean, we really mean it.  How often have you said something and then said, “I didn’t really mean that.”?  Our heart never lies.  We need to pray for the feelings in our heart especially when they are not positive.  When they come out in words, they are unclean and sinful and hurtful and unlike Jesus.  It again goes back to what we have heard so often about our outward appearance.  It is what’s in the inside that really counts, not what we put on the outside.  We need to take good care of our hearts so that it is clean and pure and never hurtful or unclean.  PRAYER Dear Jesus, a...

Monday, Matthew Chapter 13A (Verses 1-23) Matthew 13A Heather Williams Verses 9-10 Verses 9-10:  He who has ears, let him hear.  The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” THOUGHT This whole chapter is parables told by Jesus.  These two verses cover why He speaks in parables.  I thought best to understand that before discussing the parables. Jesus was not hiding the truth from sincere people. If you honestly seek God’s will, you have spiritual hearing, and these parables will give you new perspectives.  Therefore, for those who were receptive to the spiritual truth, the understanding was clear to them because they were receptive to the spiritual truth and understood the illustrations.  To others, they were just stories without meaning.  This way Jesus could share the truth with true believers and preven...

  Click on Title for Video Intro Monday, Matthew Chapter 10 Matthew 10 Mindy Strayer THOUGHT In Chapter 10 Jesus is speaking to His disciples.  First He calls them to serve Him in specific ways.  Then He gives them authority over evil.  He tells them to spread the Gospel to the lost.  He warns them to expect persecution because of their belief in Him. He tells them not to be afraid of the opposition.  He tells them how important they are to Him.  He tells them that His message will not be a peaceful one to all.  He tells them that everything in their life that to them is important must be made least important next to life in Christ.  He tells them that they will be rewarded for their acknowledgment of Jesus as Lord and for their service to Him. Guess what.  Are we not Disciples of Christ Jesus also?  This chapter 10 can be read as if Jesus were physically sitting or standing in front of us and speaking this to us. In fact, this is J...

For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”  THOUGHT I think the point Jesus is trying to emphasize here is that we need to show grace to those around us.  Every person in our lives is going to let us down at some point...the great part of being human.  I know it is easy for me to expect perfection from others. For instance, I would love to have a perfect husband and sometimes my expectation is that he will be perfect.  The reality is he is human, and there is no way he can meet these expectations. Sometimes when he doesn’t meet my unrealistic expectation, I get upset.  The problem is, in these moments I still leave myself room for error.  In these moments I need to remind myself that Matt is a wonderful but imperfect hus...

  Click on Title for Video Intro Monday, Matthew Chapter 6:1-4 Matthew 6A Verse 3 Bart Strayer Verse 3:  “But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing.” THOUGHT This verse is about the motivation of our hearts.  We must examine our hearts to see the true motivation of our ‘acts of righteousness’.  It is easy to give with mixed motives.  Like giving something that will benefit us in return. I must admit; I struggle less with this and more with giving out of discipline.  God wants us to be joyful in our giving.  When I give our tithe to our church, it isn’t always joyful.  It seems more like a routine thing to do instead of a pleasure.  When you are looking for gain from giving, or you are just not a joyful giver, both are displeasing to God.  Next time you write that check, let your heart be filled with joy with all the possibilities that God can do with your resources!   Click on Title for Video Introduction Monday, Matthew Introduction Matthew Intro Delores Little THOUGHT The gospel of Matthew was written by a Jew, Levi, or as we know him better Matthew the tax collector. Matthew presents Jesus as the fulfillment of all Messianic prophecy. In the opening sentence, Matt.1:1 we read: “The book of the generation of Jesus Christ, the Son of David, and the Son of Abraham.” Matthew identifies Jesus as the Son of Abraham saying, “In you shall all families of the earth be blessed.”  All families of the earth include both Jews and Gentiles. Since the focus of the Old Testament scripture is on the coming of the Messiah and His Kingdom, Matthew used the phrase, ‘Kingdom of Heaven’ more than 30 times, ‘Son of David’ 10 times, and ‘that it might be fulfilled which was spoken’ at least 9 times.  Matthew recorded more than 20 of Jesus’s miracles.  Matthew has more than a 100 references to Christ Jesus and records ten of His parables.
