Psalm 145
Verse 3
Jeanie Boldt
Verse 3: Great is the Lord and most worthy of praise; his greatness no one can fathom.
THOUGHT
There were so many verses that I loved in this chapter. David praised the Lord in such a great way and shared with many what beautiful assets our Lord possesses. Most of the Psalms are prayers, and most of the prayers include praise to God. Praise expresses admiration, appreciation, and thanks. Praise in the book of Psalms is often directed to God, and just as often the praise is shared with others. Considering all that God has done and does for us, what could be more natural than outbursts of heart-felt praise?
Today I challenge each of you to shout out loud or to yourselves for an act, circumstance or situation that needs the words, “Praise God”, said right out loud. Even when things do not go well the phrase needs to be shouted. David extols the Lord for His greatness, grace, goodness, glory and generosity.
If you are having a hard time praising the Lord today, that should help get you started!!! David extols the Lord as an encouragement to others. Members of each generation need to learn to praise the Lord so your praise is an example and witness to them. When you live a life of praise, you have the Lord’s help in every situation. If you stumble, He helps you up. If you are hungry, He feeds you. If you call, He draws near. No wonder David blessed the Lord so much!!!!
PRAYER
Today, Father, we are proclaiming a praise day to You in the lives of the Salt Shakers!!!! We love You and so appreciate You in all things. We are honored to have You as our God and to help us in earthly circumstances. We praise You for our jobs; we praise You for our health; we praise You for our cars (even my flat tire), we praise you for the weekend ahead and pray that we will live and love as You would have us do. There is no God like You!!! AMEN
Tuesday, Psalm Chapter 146
Psalm 146
Delores Little
Verse 1: Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
Verse 2: I will praise the LORD all my life;
I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
I love these two verses. Teaching us to Praise the Lord in our soul for as long as we live. When I was ill the last couple of weeks, I really did praise and thank God for what I was going through though I did not enjoy how I felt. I even asked God to take me home. He showed me two devotions that indeed spoke to me. It was about a 90 Year Old Man who wanted to be used by God for as long as God needed him. The Lord really put me in my place.
Verse 3: Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.
Verse 4: When their spirit departs, they return to the ground;
on that very day their plans come to nothing.
Verse 5: Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the LORD his God,
Verse 6: the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them;
the LORD, who remains faithful forever.
Verse 7: He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets prisoners free,
Verse 8: the LORD gives sight to the blind,
the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down,
the LORD loves the righteous.
Verse 9: The LORD watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and
the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
The Lord watches over all the above – just as written.
Verse 10: The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations.
Praise the LORD.
PRAYER
Father, forgive us when we get ahead of You. Teach us to wait upon You more and more and put ourselves to the side. Please use us as You see fit. Use us daily in our work, play or any or our responsibilities. In Jesus Name. AMEN
Wednesday, Psalm Chapter 147
Psalm 147
Verses 1-3, 7
Delores Little
Verse 1: Praise the LORD.
How good it is to sing praises to our God,
how pleasant and fitting to praise him!
Verse 2: The LORD builds up Jerusalem; he gathers the exiles of Israel.
Verse 3: He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
Verse 7: Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving;
make music to our God on the harp.
THOUGHT
Oh, how I love to Praise the Lord. I have prayed God would give me a singing voice to sing to Him really nicely. I came from a family who could sing really nicely, and then there was ME!!! I would start to sing, and they would tell me to shut up as I was messing it up for their singing. When I was in 10th grade, I joined the singing group, and I thought the teacher would see I could sing. Well, the first day I was really singing. He said, “Stop!”, and looked at me and said, “Delores, just sing like you are talking in the same tone.” That did it. I quit the group and even school. I was really bull-headed.
In verse 7 God speaks of the harp. I never really knew what that was when I was younger. When I was 13, I was in my room playing with paper dolls. I heard this most beautiful harp music coming through the air. I knew in my heart that it had to be angels playing and ran down stairs to tell my mom. I asked her if she could hear the music. She looked at me like I had lost it. I told her that I could hear harp music. She said I was most likely hearing my brother sing in the field. I could hardly wait for him to get home to ask him what he was singing. As usual he was singing a country song. I just hid this in my heart and never shared it again ever with them. As I look back I know now that God was calling me to Him. I have heard harps played here on earth, but nothing like that.
Let’s put a song on our lips this week and just Praise the Lord whether we can sing or not.
PRAYER
Father, teach us to be those Praising People for You as the devil doesn’t want us singing to You. Bless everyone and heal the ill. Let our heart and eyes be on You every day of our lives. In Jesus name. AMEN
Thursday, Psalm Chapter 148
Psalm 148
Delores Little
THOUGHT
This Psalm explains how we should Praise the Lord in all things even the moon and the stars should praise Him. When I was growing up on the farm we had lots of storms, twisters in the spring and summer and blizzards during the winter. I was so afraid of storms in the summer. The thunder and lightning got to me along with the bad winds. It took the reading of God’s Word to heal that in me. No special verses were chosen. Each one was important.
Psalm 148
Verse 1: Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD from the heavens,
Praise him in the heights above.
Verse 2: Praise him, all his angels, praise him, all his heavenly hosts.
Verse 3: Praise him, sun and moon, praise him, all you shining stars.
Verse 4: Praise him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies.
Verse 5: Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for he commanded and they were created.
Verse 6: He set them in place for ever and ever;
he gave a decree that will never pass away.
Verse 7: Praise the LORD from the earth,
Your great sea creatures and all ocean depths,
Verse 8: lightning and hail, snow and clouds,
stormy winds that do his bidding,
Verse 9: you mountains and all hills, fruit trees and all cedars,
Verse 10: wild animals and all cattle, small creatures and flying birds,
Verse 11: kings of the earth and all nations,
you princes and all rulers on earth,
Verse 12: young men and maidens, old men and children.
Verse 13: Let them praise the name of the LORD,
for his name alone is exalted;
his splendor is above the earth and the heavens.
Verse 14: He has raised up for his people a horn, the praise of all his
Saints, of Israel, the people close to his heart. Praise the LORD.
PRAYER
Heavenly Father, thank You for everything You made and gave us to enjoy. I think about the mountains and how beautiful it is during the day and also nights. Beauty is also in the country with God’s nature that grows and changes. You truly did make everything GOOD. Bless everyone. In Jesus Name. AMEN
Friday, Psalm Chapter 149
Psalm 149
Delores Little
THOUGHT
This chapter deals with Praise. We cannot get enough of it. Verses 6-9 explains how to be prepared for warfare. The Word of God is our weapon and sword. We need to use it in our battles every day. We will get the victory through Jesus our Lord. Like Hebrews 4:12 says, ”For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” Rev. 1:16 says, ”In His right hand He held seven stars, and out of His mouth came a sharp double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.”
Reading Verses 7-9 tells us what this sword will do and ends with, “This is the glory of the saints.” This is a promise to us believers who are in His Word and believe in Him.
Psalm 149
Verse 1: Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song,
his praise in the assembly of the saints.
Verse 2: Let Israel rejoice in their Maker;
let the people of Zion be glad in their King.
Verse 3: Let them praise his name with dancing
and make music to him with tambourine and harp.
Verse 4: For the LORD takes delight in his people;
he crowns the humble with salvation.
Verse 5: Let the saints rejoice in this honor
and sing for joy on their beds.
Verse 6: May the praise of God be in their mouths
and a double-edged sword in their hands,
Verse 7: to inflict vengeance on the nations
and punishment on the peoples,
Verse 8: to bind their kings with fetters,
their nobles with shackles of iron,
Verse 9: to carry out the sentence written against them.
This is the glory of all his saints.
PRAYER
Praise the LORD. Heavenly Father, thank You for another day to praise and sing unto You in beautiful voices or one tone. Heal the ill, comfort those who have lost loved ones and be with our service people and families and help us to vote as You would have us to do, Lord. In Jesus Name we pray. AMEN
