THOUGHT I’m not sure why, but the first thing that came to mind when I read this was that many times in the Old Testament God’s chosen people did the exact opposite of what the above verse says to do. My friend Josh and I are currently in the Book of Hosea, and today I just read a verse that I think applies perfectly. Hosea 13:4-6 says, “But I am the Lord our God, Who brought you out of Egypt. You shall acknowledge no God but me, no Savoir except me. I cared for you in the desert, in the land of burning heat. When I fed them, they were satisfied; when they were satisfied, they became proud; then they forgot me.” I guess I bring this up to help each of us in our great country. They are wanderers, prisoners, the sick, and the storm-tossed. No matter how extreme our calamity, God is able to break through to help us. He is loving and kind to those who are distressed. The verse, “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress”, was repeated four different times, and the Lord always came to their rescue. God has done so much for us, and we have so much for which to thank Him. These four different types of people typify anyone who has not found the satisfaction that comes from knowing God.
