Monday, Psalm Chapter 107
Psalm 107
Jane Jones

THOUGHT
Psalm 107 speaks of four different types of people in distress and how God rescues them all. They are wanderers, prisoners, the sick, and the storm-tossed. No matter how extreme our calamity, God is able to break through to help us. He is loving and kind to those who are distressed.

The verse, “Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress”, was repeated four different times, and the Lord always came to their rescue. God has done so much for us, and we have so much for which to thank Him.

These four different types of people typify anyone who has not found the satisfaction that comes from knowing God. What has God done for you? Is there someone you can tell?

I couldn’t help but think of Rory, my brother-in-law, as I read this devotional. March 22 was Rory’s 43rd AA birthday. In those 43 years Rory has stayed free and clean from alcohol. TJ and I were visiting about it at supper, and we were trying to imagine giving up the one thing that we loved eating or drinking the most, never to ever have it ever again, but continue to see it and be around it. Peanuts came to mind right away for TJ. I thought of a Panera muffie. HEE HEE HEE! No matter what the item, it would be very difficult and totally impossible unless you called out in distress to the Lord for help. We can assume that this is what Rory did, and the Lord answered. The Lord has never left or forsaken Rory from that day forward, and Rory is the first to admit that he could not have done it without the strength that God gave him. We celebrate with Rore-the-Man as he goes forward in trust and love with hope for a great future in Christ. The Lord had plans for Rory the day he surrendered his life and turned it over to God Almighty.

The reason some people continue to struggle day in and day out is that they have not found the satisfaction that comes from knowing the Lord and having a relationship with Him. Let us all continue to renew and keep our relationship with God fresh and alive so that we can continue to surrender to Him.

PRAYER
Father God, thank You for always being there to deliver us from our distress. You are one awesome God. AMEN

Tuesday, Psalm Chapter 108
Psalms 108
Verses 12-13
Jane Jones

Verses 12-13:  Give us aid against the enemy, for the help of man is worthless. With God we will gain the victory, and he will trample down our enemies.

THOUGHT
Do our prayers end with requests for help to make it through stressful situations? David prayed not merely for rescue, but for victory. With God’s help we can claim more than mere survival; we can claim victory! Look for ways God can use your distress as an opportunity to show His mighty power.

My really good friend (I call her Peanut) has fought the fight against Leukemia since August of 1994. In the process of her battle, her kidneys were damaged severely from the radiation treatments that she had. They are functioning at 11%. For some reason, the 11% has sustained her for a very long time, but the fatigue is really beginning to set in. I pray for her daily and the battle against this enemy, but I also pray for a victory of a miracle as well every day. We pray for the victory and wait upon His Will. Every day is a victory for her for she should never have made it this long without going on dialysis. Pray to win!!!

PRAYER
Lord, we thank You for going up against our many enemies for the help of man is worthless. We also thank You for all the victories we have won in Your name...the name above all names, Jesus Christ. AMEN.

Wednesday, Psalm Chapter 109
Psalm 109
Verse 21
Jane Jones

Verse 21:  “But you, O Sovereign Lord, deal well with me ‘for your name’s sake’; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me.”

THOUGHT
David endured many false accusations as did Christ centuries later. David was angry at being attacked by evil people who slandered him and lied. Yet David remained a friend and a man of prayer. We are called to hate the sin, but love the person doing it. Only through God’s strength will we be able to follow David’s example.

Have you ever had false accusations or lies told about you?  Word gets back to you, and you can’t believe what you have heard.  You wonder how in the world these lies were ever started.  Then you start piecing things together, and it all surfaces.  Repeating an untruth about someone destroys the person.

A name is more than a label.  It is a representation of character and reputation. David is pleading for God to live up to His name and to His character of love and mercy.  “For your name’s sake” means “in accordance with your character”. (Verse 21)

PRAYER
Lord, we pray that we can become ‘Davids’ in our lives, and through Your strength be able to hate the sin but love the sinner.  May we learn to stand strong and reverse false accusations spoken of people and remain a friend of God and a person of prayer.  AMEN

Thursday, Psalm Chapter 110
Psalm 110
Verse 1
Jeanie Boldt

Verse 1:  The Lord says to my lord, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.”

THOUGHT
Did you ever wonder what people thought when words were spoken about our Messiah in the time of the Old Testament?  Without the New Testament, the trinity would be hard to understand.  It is great to read it and listen to the story and then go back and see how it is even shared at the time of David.

Jesus was of the line of David. He came as a man through the family of David. Jesus is both divine and human.

PRAYER
Father of us all, help us to make our knowledge of Jesus as God’s Son a priority. Help us to obey Him as our King and seek to win others before He comes again. I thank You for family. Just as Christ had His family, so do we. May we experience many good times together!!! Help us to support and pray for those who are from our lineage. Thank God for the Salt Shakers. AMEN

Friday, Psalm Chapter 111
Psalm 111
Jeanie Boldt

THOUGHT
We begin the Hallelujah Psalms. I am so glad!! It so affirms our all-powerful and knowing God.

All of the verses are wonderful!! I have a few words that really affirm the special characteristics of our God and King. I know they are meaningful for they are important to me as a companion, relative and friend. I love where it says the Lord is gracious and compassionate. His works are faithful and just, and His percepts are trustworthy. His covenant is forever.

I love these traits in a person and especially as a “Best Friend”. I know many of us feel that we, as husband and wife, do our best to be like Christ for each other. What a great example we have to follow.

PRAYER
Father God, thank You for the example of Jesus that You have given us.  Develop in us the traits of Christ Himself. Give us grace, compassion, faithfulness and trust. Help us vow with Your help and God’s grace and mercy to live the best life possible here on earth to reflect You. May we ask for Your armor each day so that the evil one’s ways will not keep us from this righteous life.  AMEN
