Micah 2
Verses 6-7, 11
Heather Williams
Verses 6-7: “Do not prophesy,” their prophets say. “Do not prophesy about these things; disgrace will not overtake us.” Should it be said, O house of Jacob. “Is the Spirit of the Lord angry? Does he do such things?” “Do not my words do good to him whose ways are upright?”
Verse 11: If a liar and deceiver comes and says, “I will prophesy for you plenty of wine and beer.” He would be just the prophet for this people!
THOUGHT
Verses 6&7 reminded me of what I mentioned the prior day about discipline.
No one likes to be disciplined. It’s definitely not fun. I never got in trouble, so I don’t know what that was like. But I could tell by watching Tanya, that discipline was not fun. Just kidding, Tanya. In verses 6&7 we hear that the messages that Micah was sharing were hard to hear. The people didn’t want to hear about the discipline that God was going to show them. However, God had their best interest at heart, just as parents do with their children.
If we only want to hear happy comforting news, we may miss out on what God has in store for us. Listen to every message God has for you, difficult or joyous. He is much wiser than us.
Then in verse 11, we see the contrast. Here these prophets were saying good things — bring on the wine and beer!! However, life is not a party. Micah spoke against prophets who only told people what they wanted to hear and who encouraged their sin. He was very brave and courageous to speak the truth. We can learn a lot from him.
PRAYER
Father God, we know that sometimes the things You are saying to us aren’t easy to hear. It’s never fun to be disciplined to show our sinful ways. But the only way to ask for forgiveness and grow closer to You is to admit our sins and confess them. Only then can we truly receive Your blessing. Help us to listen to You at all times. We know that You are our Father and always have our best interest in mind as You love us with unconditional love. Thank You. AMEN
Tuesday, Micah Chapter 3
Micah 3
Verse 8
Heather Williams
Verse 8: “But as for me, I am filled with power, with the Spirit of the Lord, and with justice and might, to declare to Jacob his transgression, to Israel his sin.”
THOUGHT
Micah acknowledged that the power of his ministry came from the Spirit of the Lord. He acknowledged that he couldn’t do it on his own, and that the only way he could speak with this justice and might was through the Spirit of the Lord. In the New Testament we see that Jesus tells His followers they would receive power to witness through the Holy Spirit. We also can’t be as effective as witnesses of the Gospel on our strength alone. We must accept and rely on the power of God’s Spirit to help us live out our lives as witnesses on this earth. Accept His help and watch out how you along with God’s Spirit will change lives!
PRAYER
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we invite You into our lives. You have placed us on this earth for a mission. We accept this mission and long to serve and witness during our time on this earth. Lord, we acknowledge that we can’t do it alone. By ourselves we will fail. We need Your Holy Spirit to live in us and lead us to be the effective witnesses You have called us to be. Thank You for sending the gift of Your Son and Your Spirit. AMEN
Wednesday, Micah Chapter 4
Micah 4
Verse 12
Jeanie Boldt
Verse 12: But they do not know the thoughts of the Lord, they do not understand his plan, he who gathers them like sheaves to the threshing floor.
THOUGHT
Man oh man, there have been many times in my life where I wanted to know the thoughts of the Lord. Wouldn’t it be great to know what His thoughts and plans are for your life?
However, we do know what His plans are for our future and our purpose on this earth. We are called to be His disciples and go make disciples. His plan for us should encourage us to serve Him now. It doesn’t matter what is going on in other people’s lives. I know how hard that is; trust me. What is
important are the plans the Lord has for us, and how we should be following them now.
PRAYER
Lord, we acknowledge the calling You have made for us all to go and make disciples. Lord, help us to answer Your call and not get distracted by the things of this world or by the lives of others around us. AMEN
Thursday, Micah Chapter 5
Micah 5
Verses 2, 4&5
Delores Little
Verse 2: But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though You are small among the clans of Judah, One of You will come to Me, One who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from old, from ancient times.
Verse 4&5: He will stand and shepherd His flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord His God. And they will live securely, for then His greatness will reach to the ends of the earth. And He will be their peace.
THOUGHT
This chapter foretells the birth of Jesus and His rule on earth. Doesn’t this give you all such hope knowing God has everything timed in His timing not ours? Jesus being born in Bethlehem and the knowledge of His walk on earth for us all is our hope and comfort. Now we look forward to His promise of Him coming back. He truly will be our King on earth. Are we ready for His return? Do we get so busy with everyday life that we forget to look forward to His return?
We should live each day like Matt. 6:33-34 says, “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” You may say, “Hey, I have to make a living for my family.” That is right as God wants you to, but do it unto Him and not yourselves. Even our jobs can glorify our Father.
PRAYER
Father, we do make mistakes every day but we thank You for Your grace, mercy and forgiveness for us. We love You and pray to be ready for You. Let us learn to live each day as if it was the last day of our lives here on earth. In Jesus Name. AMEN
Friday, Micah Chapter 6
Micah 6
Verse 8
Delores Little
Verse 8: He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.
THOUGHT
As I read this chapter, I found it to be one of history and a reminder to the people of what God has done for them and what he wants of them now. This is why verse 8 stands out so much to me.
Are we doing this in our daily lives? I confess that I fall short of this verse daily. I try to do what He says and then something will come up, and I get into myself. He wants us to have mercy like He does and love like He does. It is so easy to love family or brothers and sisters in Christ, but He wants us to have love for everyone and walk humbly with God. We need each other to help us stay on the right path with God.
In verses 9-16 we read the guilt and punishment Israel suffered because of the way they acted. This is our world today!! Everyone wants to do their own thing. We need God to order our steps and ways-not us. Help us, Lord Jesus.
PRAYER
Father, forgive us when we mess up in our lives. Thank You for Your forgiveness. Bless all the Salt Shakers and their families. Help us live the life You have put us on earth for, and that is to share the Good News of the Gospel. Heal the sick, bring back the ones who have walked away from You, be with our men and women in service and our President and staff. Fill us full of Your mercy, love, peace, joy and forgiveness in this world we live in. Let us be Your lights in this dark world. In The Name of Jesus. AMEN
