Click on Title for Video Intro Monday, Exodus Chapter 20 Exodus 20 Verse 20 Matt Strayer June 4, 2008 Verse 20:  Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to testbasic law, God then told Moses how to apply it to specific situations so that everybody would receive equal justice.  God is concerned about every part of His creation, and He has the right to tell us how to manage it.  The Law did not change people’s hearts, but it did help to control their conduct and give order to the nation.   you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.” THOUGHT I chose this verse to clarify my devotion from yesterday. I may have stated a few things the wrong way based on the way that I interpreted the scripture. Moses said to the people “Do not be afraid . . . the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.” I just wanted to restate that God doesn’t try to scare us into following Him. We need to follow Him out of the love in ou...

This was an event that needed to be remembered forever. How better to do that then to remember in song. How cool that the leadership of this group of people led them in song to the Lord.  Music is such an awesome gift from the Lord. Lyrics of songs are often taken from Bible verses, and they contain stories about the Lord’s characteristics and His workings in our lives. Music unto the Lord, whether it be singing, playing an instrument or dancing is not just for entertainment, but it is a...

Click on Title for Video Introduction Mo nday, Exodus Chapter 10 Exodus 10 Verse 16 Jeanie Boldt May 7, 2008 Verse 16:  Pharaoh quickly summoned Moses and Aaron and said, “I have sinned against the Lord your God and against you. Now forgive my sin once more and pray to the Lord your God to take this deadly plaque away from me.” THOUGHT This verse really sounded sincere to me. If I didn’t know how the rest of the story went, I would have really believed that this was the break through. However, Pharaoh’s confession of sin was not sincere; he only wanted Moses to stop the plaques. True repentance involves a change of mind that leads to a change of life. In one of Rory and I’s marriage enrichment classes it shared a great way to apologize for a wrong that you had committed to your spouse. First of all, “I’m sorry” is so automatic and very easily said without true heart-felt forgiveness. They shared with us to first of all admit that you have done something to hurt your mate and share ...

Click on Title for Video Intro Monday, Exodus Chapter 5 Exodus 5 Verses 22 & 23 Tanya Ruden April 30, 2008 Verse 22 & 23:   Moses returned to the LORD and said, “O Lord, why have you brought trouble upon this people?  Is this why you sent me?  Ever since I went to Pharaoh to speak in your name, he has brought trouble upon this people, and you have not rescued your people at all.” THOUGHT Have you ever been in a situation where someone tried to make it better for you and in doing so made it 100% worse? You wish so badly they would have just stayed out of it. Things weren’t great before, but now, life is way worse. This was not how Moses and Aaron thought their first meeting with Pharaoh was going to go. I don’t think they were naïve enough to think Pharaoh would just say, “Sure, take my workers on a 3 day vacation and worship God”.  But I don’t think they anticipated worse conditions for the workers and now resistance from their own people. What wa...

Click on Title for Video Introduction Monday, Exodus Intro Exodus Intro Mindy Strayer April 21, 2008 THOUGHT The Greek word for Exodus is departure. Departure means to go away; leave, to die, to vary, as from a regular course, to diverge from normal, or expected.  God called Moses to lead the Hebrew people out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. The book of Exodus is a recording of the events leading up to that time and then God’s guidance in the lives of the Hebrew people after their departure.  As with any book in the Bible, we will be able to draw parallels between the people of the nation of Israel and ourselves.  As we read this book we can ask ourselves if there are particular areas of our own lives where God is calling us to leave, or perhaps to change our course, do something unexpected, or even something that needs to die in us, never to return.  Departing from something, even if it is a good thing, is not easy. At the very least, it takes some effor...
